Mass Emails

Mass emails are the most popular form of email marketing. Marketers purchase mailing lists from lead generating companies to use in their mailings. These are usually generalized emails that are sent out on a scouting mission. Their role is to seek out people who have purchased in the past in that niche. The next step is to analyze the results and place the respondents into groupings. The groups are then categorized according to how they responded to the emails. For instance, one for buyers, one for readers and one for those who did nothing. This activity is known as List Building and is the basis for future mailings to your individual groups.

The most common problem with this type of mailing is having your mailings viewed as spam. Luckily there are sites to check your emails for spam compliance before you send out. This will help to keep your emails out of the spam folders and getting blacklisted on the internet.
Other methods to try are Solo Email Marketing and marketing through a mailer site. In the later, your emails are pre-screened and are sent to people who have already agreed to see them.

Newsletters

E-newsletters are also becoming popular as a form of email marketing. They can be as simple or as complex as you wish. They can include text, graphics, ads, and links in any combination.

One of the first decisions you will have to make is how complex your e-newsletter will be. If you are on a tight budget, have a person from Fiverr design a template for you. Then you can add your text and a graphic to match each time you need to send out a newsletter. You can even get someone to write the newsletters for you using the same service. It may cost you $10 to $15 dollars, but you are building trust with your customers and it is worth every penny spent.

One important point to consider is that different countries have different rules regarding how you can collect and use an email list. I spent quite a bit of time studying up on the Canadian regulations before I got into email marketing!
